Calling All AAPI LGBTQ Writers of NYC: Share Your Story with “Community Voices”NEWS, News Right, SLIDER Tuesday, November 27th, 2012
By Gina Chung
Second Generation (2g), a non-profit theater company dedicated to cultivating Asian American theater and dramatic arts, is launching a writing workshop with GAPIMNY (Gay Asian Pacific Islander Men of New York), Q-WAVE, and SALGA (South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association) for “queer, Asian writers interested in exploring their relationship to ‘gender.’” No previous theater or writing experience is necessary, and “Community Voices: Queer API” seeks to provide “a safe container to explore the theme of gender while guiding students towards the creation of new pieces for theatrical expression.”
Watch a video of workshop leader Deen (Community Voices Facilitator and Playwright), Clarence Coo (Playwright), and Ryan Shen (Community Organizer) speak about the program and their experiences as gay, Asian writers on “Queer Voices Speak Out,” a panel discussion moderated by Kyoung H. Park (2g’s Director of Strategic Planning).
To apply, submit your application to email@example.com by December 7th. A committee of community organizers and playwrights will select approximately nine writers, who will be notified in early January 2013, to participate in four 3-hour writing sessions and a public reading of their work. Sessions will take place on March 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 12 to 3 pm and will be co-moderated by two 2g theater artists.Tweet
